Sadness Descends, idiotpilot.co.uk shut doors
Posted on 22. Jan, 2010 by Joel in Misc
This is seriously saddening news to report (and late news at that), but the first ever IP fansite, ran by Stuart Harper has called it quits after years of faithfully serving Idiot Pilot fans.
It makes me feel the need to reflect on my own site here, and what it’s fate may be in the future. I too have had thoughts of closing the doors here at Idiot Fans due to a drop in interest from fans, and a lack of interaction from the band themselves. But for now we’ll remain up and running.
Bottom line: idiotpilot.co.uk was always truly the greater fansite, and I was really looking forward to that redesign.

I thought the site had great info and the best forum but the site itself looked like shit. At least you’re up and running.

Well yep! at least we are up. I agree with you that he had good info and I was really looking forward to the redesign. I think Stu acknowledged that the site needed a revamp, thats why I was excited to see it. I always sort of viewed his site as competition in a way, in the sense that if i was getting lazy and not posting much about anything, and i saw he was going on a news rampage, i felt more inclined to get on my job ha. oh well. things come and go!

sad to see stu closing doors, that place was a great source
I’d have to say the photos were primarily my favorite from the site
wish they wern’t so underrated
excited to see some new updates from IP soon. we need it

I agree with Joel, and thank you for this tribute post. The main reason for closing the doors is, like you said, the lack of interest and connection from fans, also the lack of updates from Idiot Pilot themselves, this led the site to be stagment.
There was news on a 3 month basis, and even then it wasn’t anything to get excited about. I just lost interest and felt an almost guilt of having no news to post etc…
The gallery was massive, and I still have those images, I’ll be sure to upload them somewhere for people to view. Also the YouTube page is still up and always be up.
I followed idiot pilot on ip.co.uk for about 5 years and had some awesome experiences. I’ll still be about, helping spread the idiot pilot word.
Lol @ chad, the site needed an update badly.
@ Joel, I agree about the competiton aspect of it, it was good, but we both have other things going on in our lives, and like you said you were thinking about closing down due to the lack of interest. If I’m honest, idiot pilot really need to self promote and get fans involved like they used to.
I’ve gone on a bit, love you all, see you soon.

Yea. Next chance I have to interview either of them I want to ask about fan involvement and whatnot. I'm ok with Idiot Pilot taking a backseat to TGATG for a little while, but it seems at times like they've all but forgotten that Idiot Pilot exists still.
I'm sure there is a lot more going on behind the scenes than we know, but still, communication from Idiot Pilot as a band would be nice and encourage fan involvement more.
Also, Mike seems to have completely fallen off the face of the earth unless you live with him in Bellingham I suppose.

I noticed the forum still works, which is awesome since there's some pretty good stuff in there.

cool!
I'm working right now to enhance idiotfans comment system. I'm going to stick with this "intense debate" plugin for now and see how people like it.
Adds ability to subscribe to comment alerts through email if someone responds to your post. Also adds ability to rate comments up and down, etc.
I'm not sure if I like it yet, and i need to tweak some things to make it look better int his layout. but its 6am and i havent slept. night! ha

Ok, I juuust found out how this intense debate thing works. It was confusing me, I don't remember seeing it before. But I think I got it now. Hah night dude.
And Stu, ip.co.uk will always be part of our hearts. much love.

Thats very cool Max.
The forum wasn't on the idiotpilot.co.uk server, so I guess IdiotPilot.co.uk could still live on through the forum as it has a lot of news and information on it.
@ Joel, the comment system is awesome. I used it on my mobile, I look forward to see what the future holds for idiot pilot

Ah, looks like i missed the IP.co.uk page. that’s a shame.
I like idiot pilot, and have done for years. Strange we should meet here is a fantastic album, their newst, doesn’t hold the same for me.
It’s bad because (unless i’ve missed something) their last gig in the uk was canceleed, years ago. it was supposed to be in Leeds.
They definately seem to be basing themselves strictly in the US which is a shame as it seems like the Uk website was really holding things together.
It’s a shame, and I agree with Stu, their lack of fan recognition doesn’t encourage people to get involved. I’ll keep an eye on this site though, thanks for this

Yea. I think we can look forward to increased interaction with fans closer to the release of the 3rd album. I have a suspicion that Daniel is just super busy non-stop as of late though.
I do really wonder about Michael though. I havent head a word from him directed at fans in forever.
Either way, regardless of what solo projects are in the works, it’s slightly disappointing to see things like they are right now, especially considering IP’s unique past of being very intimately involved with their fans.
I know it’s selfish of me to think like this, but it worries me when I see them pursuing their own things and not really looking unified as a band. I guess my biggest fear is that they sort of had their fun with Idiot Pilot and now the band has taken on the status of a side project of sorts.
I really hope that’s not the case!
Oh, and thanks for hanging around Dannielle! I’ve recently rededicated myself to idiotfans.net so there should be more activity going on here!

Can’t wait for more details on the third album. I should really buy their second! ‘Last chance’ was good, probably my fave from what i’ve heard. This website looks good, I haven’t navigathed throughout the whole of it yet, I watched a few videos on here yesterday. Thanks for putting in the time Joel

You’re welcome Dannielle! It excites me to see feedback from fans and know that people are interested still!
You should definitely buy Wolves as it is an amazing album. I think in order to keep up with Idiot Pilot you need to have an open mind musically because they continue to evolve in different ways from album to album.
If you want to listen to the entire album before you buy you can hear it all at their purevolume page and I think the whole album is on myspace as well now!

No, the whole album isn’t on it. I looked today, I don’t know, maybe there are links. I do want to hear it all first, then maybe i’ll invest. I’m just listening to ‘violent tango’ now. It has grown on me.
God those guys are so talented!
